Neuromodulators are bacteria-derived toxins (botulism toxin) used to weaken and or paralyze facial muscles. They not only treat wrinkles, they prevent them. The most well-known neuromodulator is Botox. Originally used to reduce muscle rigidity in orthopedic surgery and to calm overactive muscles in Cerebal Palsy patients, Botox has become the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure worldwide. Retief Skin Center uses both Botox and Dysport, and you can expect to start seeing results from these injectables in three to four days.
Neuromodulators can be injected in smaller quantities to produce a more natural effect or to prevent further wrinkling. They are injected in larger quantities to produce a more dramatic effect. Each client's treatment is tailored to his/her personal preference.
Botox is a neuromodulator produced by the bacteria botulism that is used to temporarily paralyze muscles. In cosmetology, it's most often used to eliminate wrinkles, thin rounded faces, sharpen blunted jawlines (nefertiti lift), lift downturned nasal tips, enhance the corners of the mouth, reduce a gummy smile, and treat platysmal bands. Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulism that temporarily paralyzes muscles. It is used cosmetically to treat facial lines in the face and neck. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), migraines, and other medical conditions. The enhancements from Botox can last from three to six months.
Dysport is a similar neurotoxin to Botox that temporarily paralyzes facial muscles. It is used to treat facial lines around the face and neck. It is derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulism but is a slightly smaller neurotoxin than Botox. It activates quicker than Botox, only requiring two to three days to take effect. Dysport treatments last, on average, three to six months. Dysport is a cousin to Botox and is also derived from the botulism bacterial toxin, just a smaller protein. Because of this, it diffuses greater distances and takes effect quicker.
Kybella is a liquid substance injected into the skin to dissolve fat. It is a form of mesotherapy and is composed of deoxycholate acid which is a secondary bile salt used to emulsify and break down fat. Kybella is FDA-approved to reduce the fat under the chin, an area called the submentum. Several treatments are normally required to get the desirable results.
