Mini Facelift

At Retief Skin Center, we use the term mini facelift to describe enhancements to the lower face. Clients are awake during the entire procedure, but feel no pain thanks to a special type of local anesthesia called tumescent anesthesia.

By avoiding the risks of being put to sleep for this procedure, our mini facelifts are a safe alternative to a lower facelift which is typically performed in an operating room. The procedure is usually completed within three to four hours.

Our method begins with an incision along the hairline, in front of the ear, and extends around and along the posterior ear crease. The SMAS (superficial muscular and aponeurotic system), is a network of fascia encompassing the facial muscles and superior neck muscles, that is surgically tightened to sculpt the jawline lifting the lax facial muscles of the lower face.

Excess skin is also removed in the lower face and neck. Together, these two stages of the mini facelift create a more streamlined, sculpted look of the lower face, jawline, and neck. Some clients may also require neck and/or face liposuction to remove excess fat.

Recovery from a mini facelift is generally uneventful with minimal, if any, bruising or pain. Clients can expect to return to work within a week after the surgery.

Results vary from client to client; however, a more defined face, neck, and jaw line will undoubtedly be created--giving you a more youthful and rested appearance. Firmer, smoother skin, along with a decrease in deep wrinkles, can be expected after the swelling goes down. During your consultation with Dr. Carla Retief, you will understand the realistic outcomes and receive clear instructions for how to prepare for your post-op recovery.
