Blepharoplasties do not actuallu lift the eyebrows, nor do they tighten droopy eyebrows. Droopy eyebrows can lead to loose, redundant skin of the upper eyelids, so it is pertinent to establish whether the eyebrows are the issue or the upper eyelid skin is primarily the issue. For clients who are experiencing eyebrow droop, we recommend an brow lift.
Dr. Carla Retief performs only cosmetic upper eyelid blepharoplasties in her office under local anesthesia. During the procedure, the excess skin in the upper eyelid is removed with an incision along the upper eyelid crease. Usually a strip of orbicularis muscle is removed, and if needed, excess fat within the upper eyelid fat pads is also removed. Stitches are then placed within the upper eyelid creases which can be removed within a week. Healing time for a upper eyelid blepharoplasty typically takes about one week.
An eyelid lift creates a crisp eyelid crease and eliminates the droopy heavy appearance of the upper eyelids. Each client’s surgery is customized based on the features that are responsible for creating the droopiness of the eyelid.
