Collagen Induction

Collagen induction is the process of causing collagen production.  In general, all procedures that injure the skin (heat,  chemicals, injectables, needles) promote collagen induction.

ollagen induction therapy starts by using microneedling to create micro-wounds in the dermis. These channels allow hyaluronic acid or our bodies' own platelet rich plasma (PRP) to be driven deep into the skin increasing its ability to utilize the nutrients up to 3,000%. These micro-wounds trigger the body to produce new collagen and elastin. The results are improved skin texture and a reduced appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne scars.

Although most cosmetic procedures stimulate collagen production at some level, the term collagen induction is most popularly used in the microneedling industry. The procedure involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles to stimulate collagen production within the holes that are created, thereby stimulating a repair-response by your body.

Over four to five months, collagen induction will eventually occur, creating new collagen in the area.

Below are a list of some of the most common collagen induction therapies:

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment used to rejuvenate the skin. Using a hand-held pen with over 30 needles, this controlled-depth device create microscopic punctures in the top layer of the skin, stimulating new collagen and elastin production.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP) injections are a form of mesotherapy. Platelet rich plasma is a concentrated solution of you own body’s platelets that are harvested from a blood draw and then re-injected back into the skin tissue. Because our bodies produce new platelets every 30 days in the bone marrow, they contain many growth factors that trigger tissue regeneration and help heal wounds. Studies have shown that when PRP is injected into one side of the face, clients experience less wrinkles and better skin tone in three months. For hair loss, PRP can cause thickening of existing hairs. As with facial injections, platelet rich plasma treatments have shown to improve skin tone and reduce stretch marks.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a product used to stimulate collagen production within the skin. Over four to five months after treatment, collagen induction occurs, creating new collagen in the area. Since Sculptra is a natural treatment and relies on your own body to volumize an area, results vary from person to person.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a filler that is composed of calcium hydroxyappetite and not hyaluronic acid. It is not permanent, but unlike the hyaluronic acid fillers, it cannot be removed from the skin once it's injected. Radiesse is used for volume correction in the same area that Voluma is used. This filler is very sturdy and lasts up to two years.

Exosome therapy

Exosome therapy is one of the most exciting treatments in the medical and aesthetic world today. Exosomes are the signaling messengers from stem cells and have a whole host of potential benefits and applications, especially for skin health. In fact, ALL aspects of skin health improve with exosome therapy. Learn more
